Lamb's Pride Worsted. Finished!
No one likes us I don't know why. We may not be perfect But heaven
knows we try. But all around even our old friends put us down. Let's
drop the big one and see what happens.
We give them money But are
they grateful? No they're spiteful And they're hateful. They don't
respect us so let's surprise them; We'll drop the big one and pulverize
them.
Now Asia's crowded And Europe's too old. Africa's far too
hot, And Canada's too cold. And South America stole our name. Let's
drop the big one; there'll be no one left to blame us.
We'll
save Australia; Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo. We'll build an
all-American amusement park there; They've got surfing, too.
Well,
boom goes London, And boom Paris. More room for you And more room
for me. And every city the whole world round Will just be another
American town. Oh, how peaceful it'll be; We'll set everybody free;
You'll have Japanese kimonos, baby, There'll be Italian shoes for me.
They all hate us anyhow, So let's drop the big one now. Let's drop
the big one now.
I'm working on this scarf in Sirdar Denim Chunky, which is 60% acrylic, 25% cotton and 15% wool. And cuddly.
Let me share the how, since I think it's coming out nicely...
(And judging from the number of hits I get from people searching Google for "free scarf pattern" it seems I might ought to have one.)
CO 36 sts or any multiple of 4 your little heart desires on nice big needles. The ones I'm using are 5.5mm.
*k2tog, yo, k2* til it's as long
as you want it to be. Voila!
Do Not Panic! I am reporting, by request, that Squib has not been abducted
by aliens. She has become so popular (and understandably so!) that she has exceeded her traffic quota for the month.
All should reset on Sunday.
I'm about to make a short story long... just a warning. Carolyn called me this afternoon and had made it safely home after 29 hours of travel.
I had told her to look around at Gardermoen airport for these ... things that you step under (they look like metal umbrellas) and hear
someone whispering in your ear. She didn't have time to explore (we were late getting there) but picked up a copy of the brand spanking new Utne Arts Extra (read more about
it here) and found
an article about the lady who is responsible for the very same "Sound Showers"! Next time you're
at Gardermoen, check 'em out.
Carolyn is winging her way out of Norway (actually, she's probably somewhere over Switzerland about now) and I miss her already.
She mastered garter stitch while she was here and got the rudiments of purling. And we set up a food blog for her, but it's not ready for
viewing just yet.
I have some socks to show you but that'll have to wait til tomorrow. For now, check out this book :
The Professor and the Madman
about the making of the Oxford English Dictionary. Verrry verrry interesting! (I read almost all of it, but unfortunately, it's also
over Switzerland about now.)
Hey! I have another FO for my 13 year old step-kid!
The inspiration was a Rebeccaribbed cardigan that I saw
in an advertisement in another knitting magazine. This was made with Lamb's Pride Superwash (worsted weight) in Grey Heather, as requested. I love the sporty
stripes!
Anybody have any suggestions on how to sew a zipper into this sort of thing?
I have to say something to anyone who might be reading from around Oslo:
I have a friend arriving tomorrow (Yea!) who has spent most of her life in Florida and has been working in Italy since April.
I said the following a couple of times last week: "We need some real Norwegian weather for Carolyn's visit."
Erica reminded me that I didn't mention what yarns I used on ol' Foxy there. I used
an undetermined black wool from my stash (rather thin... I had to double it for his face) and exactly one skein of Sandnes Funny (but I did make it a bit shorter
than the pattern called for, since I was making it for a 9 year old). The color number is... 4495.
The eyelash part is kind of a reddish coppery color with a black base yarn. :O)
What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon! It's such a special feeling to make a creature come alive
with yarn and plastic eyeballs... And no, you can't have 'im. Go make your own.
Krepsemasker: Hekl en rad med fastm motsatt vei, det vil si fra venstre mot høyre uten å snu arb.
Ellen was kind enough to do a search for
krepsemasker and found a Garnstudio pattern online that included the above directions. Now...
Crochet one row with "fast" stitches, the opposite way, in other words from left to right without turning the work.
But still... Heh?
I did finish the baby set... pictures forthcoming!
I'm unhappy with several things about this page suddenly and need to work on it. But I also need to clean the rest of the house. The bathroom
is clean. Thoroughly. Even underneath the washing machine and dryer! But all the stuff that was in there that shouldn't have been is scattered all
over the rest of the house. Bleh. I'm just sayin'.
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. I looked up some crochet terms and found this lovely
Crochet Basics.
I think fastmasker is single crochet, but if anyone knows what
krepsemasker (fastmasker heklet bakover) is, I'd be forever grateful if you'd let me know.
I'm much recovered, though I haven't been outside for more than a couple of minutes since last Wednesday.
I've submitted my Knitty projects (you'll be relieved to know) and
am working like mad to finish up the baby outfit (less than half an arm to go) since the nephew is scheduled to be born on Tuesday! Bad news is I'm running out of the green yarn
that I will need for the button band and collar, but ... I'll think of something. Likely going to the store to get another skein. :O)
This is a weblog. It's mine. It tends to be about knitting
with occasional ramblings about my experience living in Norway.
(Sometimes it's the other way 'round.) Want to know more? Read
this! :O)
