Dear Crazymaker

I see you for what you are.
I see you discounting my reality and wasting my time.
I see you refusing to make time for real problems that are your responsibility and that are not only important to me, but to all the others who depend on me.
I see you thriving on the negative energy you create.
I see you expecting all the women around you to drop whatever they're doing to attend to your needs.
I see you not only stepping over people's boundaries but violently rubbing them out with your boot.
I see you assigning blame instead of working toward sane solutions.
I see you with your verbal abuse. I see people who are afraid of you. Can you not see that?
And I see you charming others into perpetuating your abuse.
I see that you're destructive. And I see that my acceptance of that destructiveness is a statement about me.

PS: This post was brought to you in an attempt to prepare myself for dealing with a co-worker. Fortunately I've learned to avoid crazymakers in my personal life. You should too!

Why can't every evening be like this?

snb25.8a

First off I want to thank Pikene På Hjørnet loads for letting us pretty much take over the café for the evening. Their brownies and ice cream are to-die-for!

Now for some details...

Sol poses with an article in the local paper about her new online store Garn Kurven!
snb25.8b

Christine checks out Karine's Ene's Scarf from Scarf Style.
snb25.8c

There was even a surprise family reunion!
snb25.8h

Tiny digital cameras appear from several bags...
snb25.8i

And around the table we knit, crochet, quilt and embroider...
snb25.8f snb25.8e snb25.8d

I had a marvelous time... Tusen takk to everyone who came! Next time will be October 6, same time, same place. For more images (including a couple of shots with me in them, Mom!) visit Norway Needles.

Stewart relaxes in his new Kitty Pi made with some Lopi from the stash. (Oppskriften finnes også på norsk!)

Of course, being a kitten means either being 100% off or 100% on...

Socks and socks.

Fuzzy Feet After

Fuzzy Feet

Made these with exactly 1 skein of Rauma Vamsegarn, in color #53 using 6mm needles and the smallest size directions from Knit Wit. (Yes I had to follow the directions even though I wrote them. I can't for the life of me memorize a heel turn!) Before felting they fit me perfectly.
Fuzzy Feet Before

I ran them through a regular wash cycle with regular detergent and a few towels... didn't check my pre-felt gauge, didn't use the same yarn and they still came out the same size as the pattern said they would.

Which goes to show one of two things: you really should have fun with this pattern... no matter what you do they'll likely come out fine...

-or-

for best results come over and use my washing machine.*

Baby Silk socks

Baby Silk Socks

Made these with some incredibly wonderful yarn from Du Store Alpakka called Baby Silk. It's 80% baby alpaca and 20% silk and it's one of those yarns that makes you want to cuddle the skein. I followed this pattern by Dawn Adcock that I found on the DYOS page at Socknitters.com. There is no planned recipient of these socks, just couldn't think of anything more appropriate for this yarn than socks for little baby feet.

*Actually, that's not true. I have a different washer now than when I did the calculations for the book.

Run and get some!

Donatella yarn from Gedifra is currently on sale for Nkr 25 (that's about $4) per 50 g at Garnstua. First I had to buy some, then I had to start a scarf when I got home. (What gets into me?) I'll be doing it, I think, in fisherman's rib (known in Norway as patent).

Berit, who runs the place with her daughter, not only put a sign up advertising the SnB, she said she'd definitely be there! And she was really nice - even let me have the yarn for the slightly lower price she quoted first even when I corrected her. I've always been too shy to strike up a conversation when I've been there. Which was downright silly of me.

By the way - if you're in Oslo tonight, join me at Marekat's concert debut at Chateau Neuf!

Some knitting content

Kathe cap

I finally finished something! It's a replica of the chemo cap I wrote about in the special issue of Knitty (pdf file) and it fits just like the original so I'm enormously pleased. I'm working on writing up the pattern, so stay tuned.

And I've started on the second of a pair of socks using the Lorna's Laces yarn that I received from Lisa (et al) this spring. dogblogdog yarn socks

The pattern is Country Socks from Folk Socks. The yarn is wonderful.

Sun and rain

The combination of the way the sun hangs low in the sky for hours and hours in the evenings this time of year and the relentless summer rain makes for some spectacular weather phenomenon here - double and circular and Crayola-colored rainbows are not uncommon, for example.

Just minutes ago, the sun was shining in a clear blue sky to the southwest (and thus right into the living room) while huge drops of rain bombarded our house and, really, is there anything quite as cool as that?

Unfortunately I've discovered it's nearly impossible to capture that particular phenomenon in a digital camera. I'll leave you to your imagination.

Stitch n' Bitch!

I'm thrilled to announce the first Stitch n' Bitch Lillestrøm - being held August 25 starting at 7 pm at Pikene på Hjørnet Café at Lillestrøm Syd. That's within easy walking distance of the train station in Lillestrøm which, if I may add, is only one stop out of Oslo if you catch the right train. And if you'd like to help spread the word, please feel free to use one of the following to post on your own site.

SnB, English version SnB, Norwegian version

I also have an announcement suitable for printing out and hanging up... just let me know and I'll be happy to send it to you. Actually I'd love to hear from you if you even think you might be able to come - leave a comment or email me. I'm so excited!

Yipes.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm not a summer blogger. But really, this has gone on long enough.

We spent 3 lovely weeks with my parents in North Carolina this summer. I picked up Stephanie's wonderful, wonderful book while we were there. I had also ordered The Twisted Sister's Sock Workbook which necessitated a trip to Earth Guild to stock up on of Merino roving and acid dyes. (I have yet to figure out where to find either of those here.) I've given hot pour dyeing a try and have spun up a very little bit into some very imperfect singles - but my hopes are high.

I also got to meet the very sweet recipient of "Abby Gail" from Dale Baby #142. Awww...

(Next time I decide to make a baby gift I'll be sure the pattern doesn't start with the phrase "cast on 300 billion stitches on size O needles", I'll tell ya that right now.)

I did manage to get my bit for the summer issue of Knitty done just before we left, which was the first in a series of instructions for casting on. I was particularly pleased with the Quicktime movie... I wasn't sure I could even do instructions for casting on - thinking it would be too difficult to explain with still pictures. It's really fairly amazing that it turned out as well as it did seeing as that was the first time I'd used that feature on my camera.

And speaking of delightful things, Amy's interview on Knit Cast was a real treat - and not just because she mentioned the Fuzzy Feet, though that did elicit a delighted squeal. If you haven't had a listen yet, do so now.
