June 9, 2007 - Saturday

How I spent my Saturday.

It's been hot this weekend. Hot! Maybe my thermoregulation system has changed since moving here, or maybe I was just used to air conditioning in South. Here there is hardly any air conditioning anywhere. The house heats up like a ... hot thing. Today my choices were:
  1. hang out in the freezer section at the grocery store
  2. lie quietly on the tiled bathroom floor* or
  3. find a body of water
So I took a nice long walk in the woods to Tærudtjern...

Tærudtjern

It only took me 14 hours to get there, because

Tærudtjern

Also, first I got lost following a "Nature Trail" straight up the BIG GIANT HILL which didn't go anywhere. Once I found the right trail, I already had the beginnings of a blister. But it was worth every minute! So peaceful. Such cold water.

In other news, I'm going wild with the Ravelry. At the time Casey took the screen shots for the tour, I was number 6 on the "Top Ravelers" list! Now Ariel and her 13,459,879,023,874 socks have surpassed me. I guess I'll just have to cast on a whole bunch of stuff to keep myself in the list. (I kid!) (Mostly!)

Something else going wild are the lupines in our back yard. I love them. Who needs grass that needs mowing when you can have a backyard full of wildflowers?

On the actually knitting front, I'm finishing up a February Baby Sweater...

and panicking because the border on Icarus is going to exceed the yarn supply. Also, I put the modified Wonderful Wallaby in the regular wash. And - alas - there is no more Cork to be had.

I suppose there are worse things. For example, the blister really hurts.

*Lying on the bathroom floor was actually precisely what I was doing Friday afternoon when AMY CALLED TO SAY SHE IS COMING TO LIVE WITH ME! COMING TO VISIT! (More details to follow...)

Mother's Day

Today I'm thinking about my own mom and how much she means to me ...

Mom and me

And about moms who are sad today ...

And about women who are trying to become moms ...

And about women who risk their lives becoming moms ...

Today I donated money to help provide emergency obstetric care through the United Nations Population Fund.

And I called my mom.
